Introduction to Remote Sensing and characteristics of microwave observation from space. Principles of Microwave Radiometry: Measurement of thermal microwave emission from land surfaces. Microwave radiometers: Receiver Types, Principles of Polarimetry and radio-interferometry. Satellite radiometers.Radar Observations in Remote Sensing: Side Looking Radar and Synthetic Aperture Systems. Experimental result: Relationships between microwave emission/scattering and physical properties of observed surfaces. Electromagnetic modeling: Simulation of emission and scattering from bare and vegetation or snow covered soils. Exemples of Applications: measurement of land hydrological parameters with active and passive microwave sensors.
