- Electromagnetic Waves Engineering
- Optimization Models and Algorithms
- Adaptive Systems for Information Processing
- Complex Systems
- Robotic Systems
- Telecommunication Technologies Applications
The PhD students fulfil their coursework and methodology requirements by attending a number of courses and by devoting an increasing – across the three years – amount of time to research. Every year the school organizes a number of intensive (20-hour) courses, ranging from advanced mathematics to engineering topics. During their first, second and third year the student is required to take 5, 3 and 2 of these courses respectively. In November, students at their second and third year present their research during a poster day.
The PhD degree is attained after defending the thesis in front of a committee.
The PhD school is part of the Santa Chiara School, which promotes a number of inter-disciplinary research and teaching initiatives, under the supervision of international top rank scholars. Foreign students enrolled in our PhD school can apply to stay at the Santa Chiara PhD College, offering comfortable accommodation at affordable prices.
There are currently 40 PhD students enrolled. Every year there are new openings (typically from 16 to 20), most of which funded either by the University or by private institutions and companies.
The next call for students is generally iussed in May or June, and will remain open for 30 days. Applicants must already have the Master degree or get it within the end of September. PhD activities start on October, 1. For details, see the section on How to apply.
